DUSHANBE, June 13, Asia-Plus — Bahrom Habibov, former chief of one of frontier posts of the main border directorate within the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) along the Tajik-Afghan border in Khatlon, has been arrested by drug police officers on suspicion of having been involved in drug trafficking.
Mahmadullo Asadulloyev, a spokesman for the Ministry of Interior (MoI), said that operation carried out by officers from the Interior Ministry directorate for combating drug trafficking (drug police) in Khatlon’s Hamadoni district in early June led to the arrest of local resident Nazar Zarifov. 11.6 kilograms of heroin were confiscated from him.
“The preliminary investigation has established that Zarifov received the confiscated narcotics from the former frontier post chief Bahrom Habibov,” said the spokesman. “Habibov illegally crossed into Afghanistan in April and returned from there with the heroin that was confiscated by drug police officers from Zarifov in early June.”
