DUSHANBE, February 11, 2015, Asia-Plus — The US will always support the territorial integrity and independence of each country in Central Asia, said the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Central Asia Daniel Rosenblum during a telephone press conference with journalists from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan on February 10, according to CA-News.
“We will support the independence, as well as sovereignty and territorial integrity of each Central Asian country as before,” said Rosenblum.
He said that the US plans to expand cooperation with the countries of the region in security sphere.
“We do not want to see the countries of Central Asia as a haven for terrorists,” said US top diplomat. “We are for the expansion of our cooperation in security, as well as confronting such transnational threats as terrorism, drug trafficking and “Islamic state.”
He said that stability in Central Asia, the countries of which “are bordering very large and important countries, with which the United States has important and complex relationships” is very important for the US.
At the same time, Rosenblum said that the United States does not claim exclusivity in terms of political and economic priorities.
“We do not demand that the Central Asian countries interact only with the United States,” said the representative of the State Department.
Daniel Rosenblum was appointed Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Central Asia in July 2014. Working within the State Department’s Bureau for South and Central Asian Affairs, Mr. Rosenblum oversees U.S. policy towards and diplomatic relations with the five Central Asian states: Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
