Tajik president starts official visit to South Korea

DUSHANBE, April 11, 2015, Asia-Plus – Tajik President Emomali Rahmon arrived in the Korean city of Daegu on an official visit Friday afternoon, according to the Tajik MFA information department.

While in Daegu, Rahmon will hold talks with Korean President Park Geun-hye to discuss cooperation between their countries.  The meeting is expected to result in signing of a number of cooperation documents.

Tajik leader is also scheduled to hold talks with Korean parliament speaker and some other high-ranking Korean state officials.

Meanwhile, Korean Yonhap News Agency reports President Park Geun-hye will have talks with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon on Sunday, April 12 to discuss the issue of water as well as issues of mutual interest.

President Emomali Rahmon will also attend the 7th World Water Forum in South Korea to discuss water shortage problems and other issues of mutual and global concern.

In Seoul, President Rahmon will attend a ceremony of opening of the building of Tajik Embassy in Korea.  Rahmon is also scheduled to hold meeting with Tajik students studying in South Korea.  

According to the Tajik president’s official website, Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Aslov, Minister of Economic Development and Trade Nematullo Hikmatullozoda, Minister of Transport Sherali Ganjalzoda, Director of the State Material Stocks Agency Nourmahmad Ahmadov, Chairman of the Committee for Youth, Sports and Tourism Affairs Akhtam Abdullozoda, and some other officials are accompanying President Rahmon’s on his visit to South Korea.
