DUSHANBE, May 30, Asia-Plus — Since more than 50 percent of goods is delivered to the country from abroad, world rising prices affect prices of basic food products in Tajikistan considerably, Deputy Economic Development and Trade Minister, Larisa Kislyakova, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to her, there is enough volume of goods on the country’s markets, however, prices have been rising since July 2007.

“To provide food security and regulate the current situation on the domestic market the government has adopted the national food security program for 2008-2009 and is taking additional measures,” said the deputy minister.  “We want to keep out last year’s economic development and try to provide further socioeconomic development.”

She added that the price hike may be avoided only in the event “if national economy’s resistibility to world price changes increases and direct dependency on external economic factors reduces.”

Besides, the wage reform concept adopted in March and increase in the minimum monthly wage to 60 somonis will allow removing unfounded interregional and inter-sectoral differences and wages will be paid under the single tariff schedule.
