DUSHANBE, May 26, Asia-Plus  — Customs officers at the Dushanbe airport and officers from the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) have stopped an attempt by two foreign nationals to smuggle a large amount of heroin.  

According to the Tajik Customs Service head office in Dushanbe, an inspection of passengers on the flight Dushanbe-Istanbul flight found more than 25 kilograms of heroin hidden in luggage belonging citizen of Turkey and woman from the Philippines. 

The source said that operation had been carried out by the customs officers in cooperation with the country’s security service.  The source refrained from giving further details.   

Criminal proceedings have been instituted and an investigation is under way.
