DUSHANBE, May 20, 2015, Asia-Plus — Quite a strong earthquake has struck Rasht Valley (eastern Tajikistan) with no initial reports of major damage or injury.

The Geophysics Service of the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan says an earthquake measuring 2.0-3.0 on a 12-point scale jolted Dushanbe today at 8:31 am.

The quake centered in eastern Tajikistan, could also be felt in other regions of Tajikistan, the source said.

In the epicenter, some 120 kilometers northeast of Dushanbe in the Rasht Valley, the Geophysics Service cited the magnitude as up to 6.0.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake measured a magnitude of 5.5.  It said the tremor hit 25 kilometers ESE (east-southeast) of Roghun at a depth of 11 kilometers.
