DUSHANBE, May 27, 2015, Asia-Plus – A group of rescuers from the Committee on Emergency Situations and Civil Defense (CES) under the Government of Tajikistan is participating in a disaster relief exercise that is being conducted for disaster relief units from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member nations at the “Astana the Rock City” training range in Kazakhstan.
Disaster relief units from Tajikistan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia are participating in the exercise, Orif Nozimov, a spokesman for the CES, told Asia-Plus in an interview.
According to him, the exercise scenario is based on a devastating earthquake striking the area and the disaster relief units are rehearsing coordination in disaster response activities.
Tajik rescuers will also participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization disaster relief exercise that will conducted at the “Astana the Rock City” training range from June 1-5, Nozimov said.
The Collective Security Treaty Organization comprises Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan.
