DUSHANBE, June 25, 2015, Asia-Plus — According to the Agency of Labor and Employment Department of the Ministry of Labor, Migration, and Employment of the Population, about 51,000 citizens have applied to the Agency for help in January-May 2015.
Over the same five-month period, more than 15,000 people have reportedly been provided with jobs with the assistance of the employment services, which is nearly 30 percent of the total number of all citizens who applied.
The main reasons for providing a limited number of people with jobs were that the majority of the unemployed did not have the necessary technical training or had lost skills due to prolonged unemployment, as well as the low level of wages offered by employers.
Last month, unemployment benefits totaling 1.7 million somoni (equivalent to 306,000 U.S. dollars) were paid to more than 3,3000 people.
As of June 1, 2015, a total of about 900,000 persons were registered with the Agency as looking for work.
According to the State Agency on Social Protection, Employment, and Migration of Tajikistan, more than 83,500 new jobs have been created in the country over the first five months of this year, which is 41.1 percent more than in the same period last year.
