DUSHANBE, April 24, Asia-Plus  — The National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) is dissatisfied with work of the currency exchange offices in the country.  

Speaking to reporters in Dushanbe on April 24, Tajik central bank head Sharif Rahimzoda said that majority of some 990 of currency exchange offices that currently operate in the country had been set up with violation of instructions.  

“In accordance with instruction, each currency exchange office should have accounting system and use cash register,” Rahimzoda said, adding that NBT is currently working out a draft instruction on the currency exchange offices and money transfer services. 

The instruction will define procedure of work of the currency exchange offices, Tajik central bank head said.  “Under this instruction, the currency exchange offices should have enough cash both in national and foreign currencies,” said Rahimzoda, “Besides, they should have enough amount cash in small banknotes in order to give change.”    

He further added that they had introduced a new procedure of penalizing banks for violation of regulations and set large fines that will be applied to the exchange offices as well. 

According to him, over the first quarter of this year, open joint-stock company (OJSC) Tojiksodirotbonk (TSB) and the First MicroFinanceBank of Tajikistan have been fined 86,000 somonis and 111,000 somonis respectively for violation of regulations.
