DUSHANBE, October 19, 2015, Asia-Plus – Tajik President Emomali Rahmon today took part in  a ceremony to lay the cornerstone of a new modern city for 35,000 people in Sughd province, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

The president’s website says the new city, named Bahoriston, will have 70 nine-story residential buildings, schools, hospitals, kindergartens, sports centers, and shopping centers and bazaars.  Besides, plots of land for housing will be allocated to 3,400 families.

The new city will be built for residents of Istaravshan and Ghonchi districts along the Dushanbe-Khujand highway.

We will recall that on March 24, 2014, President Emomali Rahmon took part in a ceremony to lay the cornerstone of what he said would be a modern city for some 250,000 people.

Sayhun, named after a nearby river, is being built on a 14,000-hectare desert land some ten kilometers north of Khujand, the country”s second city, in the Sughd province.
