DUSHANBE, November 19, 2015, Asia-Plus – The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) notes that the 17th regional Central Asia media conference titled “Digitalization for Freedom of the Media” is kicking off in Dushanbe today, with the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Dunja Mijatovic, opening the conference.

This two-day conference is expected to bring together more than 80 journalists, as well as representatives of governments, NGOs and academia from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Mongolia  to discuss the implications of digitalization for free media in the region, and the latest media freedom developments in the region.

The OSCE encourages its participating States to switch to digital broadcasting systems as a way to end spectrum scarcity and open up a media landscape that protects plurality of opinion and freedom of expression
