Tajikistan plans to supply electricity to China

Date:

DUSHANBE, December 8, 2015, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan has developed an investment project aimed at constructing a power transmission line from Tajikistan via Sary-Tash (Kyrgyzstan) to the Ulugchat County in China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.

According to Tajikistan’s State Committee on Investment and State-owned Property Management (GosKomInvest), Tajikistan plans to supply surplus electricity after construction of large and medium-sized hydropower plants on the Vakhsh River.

The project reportedly provides for construction of a 550-kilometer 500V power transmission line from Tajikistan via Sary-Tash to the Ulugchat County in XUAR.

An estimated budget for construction of this power transmission line is 160 million U.S. dollars and Tajik power engineering specialists say Tajikistan could supply up to 6 billion kWh of electricity per year via this power transmission line.

Ulugchat County is a county in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and is under the administration of the Kizilsu Kirghiz Autonomous Prefecture. It contains an area of 18,758 km2.
