 DUSHANBE, March 13, Asia-Pus  – Areas under grain crops will have increased in Tajikistan this year, Tohir Sodiqov, the head of grain and industrial crops department within the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), told Asia-Plus on Thursday  said.

 According to him, winter grain crops have been planted on 140,439 hectares this year against last year’s 120,520 hectares.  

“According to the preliminary data, spring crop area will have amounted to 142,577 hectares this year, while last year, it amounted to 146,521 hectares,” said Sodiqov.  “Total areas under grain crops are expected to amount to 283,016 hectares, which is 16,000 hectares more than last year.” 

According to the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), Tajikistan has to date reached 27 percent of the spring crop sowing campaign.  Wheat has been planted on 38,428 hectares.   

Farmers in Khatlon have planted grains on 28,596 hectares, Sughd farmers have planted grains on 2,379 hectares and farmers in districts subordinate to the center (RRPs) have to date planted grains on 7,453 hectares.
