DUSHANBE, April 6, 2016, Asia-Plus – A group of deputies of Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament have prepared a number of amendments to the country’s law on holidays.

Under these amendments, a number of new holidays may be declared in Tajikistan.

Thus, they propose to declare a new national holiday – President Day or the Leader of the Nation Day.

November 19 or November 6 may be declared as holiday, a source in the Tajik government told Asia-Plus in an interview.

On November 19, 1992, Emomali Rahmon was elected chairman of Tajikistan’s parliament, Majlisi Oli (Supreme Assembly), and on November 6 of 1994, 1999, 2006 and 2013 he was elected President of Tajikistan.

Since Tajikistan marks Constitution Day on November 6, it cannot be ruled that October 5, which is birthday for Emomali Rahmon, may be declared as holiday.

The amendments are still at the stage of coordination, the source added.

We will recall that President Emomali Rahmon on December 25 signed off on the law “On Founder of Peace and Accord – Leader of the Nation,” which designated him “the Leader of the Nation.”

The Majlisi Namoyandagon passed the law on December 9 and members of Tajikistan’s upper house (Majlisi Millii) unanimously voted to second the law on December 18.

The law officially designates Rahmon “the founder of peace and national unity of Tajikistan” and states that he cannot be prosecuted for anything he has done while in office.

The law also determines powers of the Leader and stipulates that he will be provided with transport, dwelling and social benefits after leaving the presidency.

Besides, the law gives Rahmon the right to appeal to the nation and participate in important government events and address them after leaving the presidency.

The law also provides for creating archives, library and museum of the leader of the nation.

The leader of the nation will receive pension equal to 80 percent of president’s salary.
