DUSHANBE, April 14, 2016, Asia-Plus — The European Union Special Representative for Central Asia (EUSR), Ambassador Peter Burian, will pay visit to Tajikistan from April 20-22, according to the Tajik MFA information department.

During the visit, the EUSR is expected to discuss with Tajik state officials issues of further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and the European Union

The sides will also exchange of views on regional issues in Central Asia and beyond, in particular on the current situation in Afghanistan and developments in the Middle East.

Ambassador Burian will also discuss with Tajik officials issues related to practical implementation of the EU-Tajikistan partnership and cooperation agreement, the UE’s strategy for Central Asia and the EU-Tajikistan multiannual indicative program designed for 2014-2020.

EU-Tajikistan multiannual indicative program reportedly provides for attraction of 251 million Euros for practical implementation of a number of rural development as well as education and health development projects in Tajikistan.

The Special Representative is tasked with promoting EU political coordination in Central Asia, monitoring the implementation of the EU Central Asia Strategy and supporting regional security in the region.
