DUSHANBE, April 19, 2016, Asia-Plus – Chairman of Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament, Shukurjon Zuhurov, has delivered a statement at a two-day conference of the Eurasian parliament speakers that kicked doff in Moscow today.

Co-chaired by Chairman of the State Duma (Russia’s lower chamber of parliament) Sergey Naryshkin and Korean National Assembly Speaker Chung Eui-hwa, the conference has brought together parliament speakers from Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Cambodia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Pakistan, South Korea, Russia, Thailand, the Philippines, the Czech Republic, Tajikistan and some other countries to discuss the state and prospects of further expansion of parliamentary cooperation between the Eurasian countries, according to Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon.

Addressing the conference, Zuhurov reportedly noted that Tajikistan supports South Korea’s initiative to hold the Eurasian parliament speakers’ conference to discuss ways and opportunities of expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation and integration in the region.

“We believe that the conference recommendations will promote successful implementation of integration projects and further expansion of trade, economic and parliamentary cooperation between our countries,” Tajik parliament speaker said.

He, in particular, stressed that deepening of the Eurasian integration determines prospects of sustainable development of the countries of the region in the coming decade and is closely connected with an idea of uniting around the Big Eurasia project, which allows uniting the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), the Silk Road Economic Belt and the European Union (EU) into the single integration project providing a complex and multifold character of the full-scale Eurasian integration.

“Implementation of these initiatives creates conditions for providing free movement of goods, services and capitals, and thereby, lays a firm foundation for formation of a new model of trade and economic cooperation between our countries,” Zuhurov noted.

According to him, implementation of the Great Silk Road project under the principal of “joint discussion,” “joint development” and “mutual sharing” provides huge opportunities for the whole world, forming a general-purpose approach to the mutually beneficial cooperation and development on the Eurasian Continent.

“Tajikistan is interested in implementation of regional energy projects aimed at solving the problems of power deficit and formation of a common regional energy market.  Construction of gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to China via Uzbekistan and Tajikistan will closed the energy corridor allowing to connect Central Asia and China,” Tajik parliament speaker stated.
