Tajik, Iranian parliament speakers meet in Moscow to discuss cooperation

DUSHANBE, April 20, 2016, Asia-Plus – Speaker of Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament, Shukurjon Zuhurov on April 19 met in Moscow with Ali Larijani, speaker of Iran’s parliament (Majlis), on the sidelines of a conference of the Eurasian parliament speakers.

Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, says the two discussed state and prospects of further expansion of parliamentary cooperation between Tajikistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

“To-date, Tajikistan and Iran have signed 160 cooperation agreements and 50 Iranian companies are currently operating in Tajikistan” Tajik parliament speaker noted.

Zuhurov and Larijani reached an agreement on exchange of experience between the parliaments of the two countries in working out, analyzing and expertizing draft laws, Sultonov said.

reports that Larijani noted during the meeting that Iran wants firmly to develop cooperation with Tajikistan comprehensively.

He said that situation is ripe for development of ties and the two countries witness promotion of cooperation in different areas.

For his part, Zuhurov reportedly said that the two countries have implemented many projects in different industrial and economic areas.

Tajik parliament speaker said that he was pleased with lifting sanctions on Iran and said that Tajikistan is ready for cooperation with Iranian investors,

The Eurasian parliament speakers’ conference opened on April 19 by messages of Russian President Vladimir Putin and the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in presence of parliament speakers from 19 countries.

Tajikistan, Iran, Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Mongolia, Pakistan, South Korea, Russia, Thailand, the Philippines and Czech Republic have taken participated in the conference.
