DUSHANBE, May 23, 2016, Asia-Plus – The Communist Party of Tajikistan (CPT) is making preparations for the 32nd report-and-election congress.

Ismoil Talbakov, Secretary of the CPT Central Committee, says the 32nd report-and-election congress of the party will take place in Dushanbe on July 2.

“Currently, the CPT primary organizations in regional, cities and districts are holding report back and election meetings,” Talbakov said.

According to him, the upcoming congress will hear report on the party’s activities over the past five years.  The congress will also elect a new leader and approve a new platform of the party, Talbakov added.

We will recall that the Communist Party of Tajikistan has lost its two seats in parliament as it failed to pass a 5-percent threshold to get into the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) in March 2015.

Founded in 1918, the Communist Party of Tajikistan was registered in 1991.  According to some sources, the party now has 37,000 members.  Shodi Shabdolov, 72, is leader of the party; he has headed the party for already twenty-five years.
