DUSHANBE, May 26, 2016, Asia-Plus – Israeli parliamentarians are expected to visit Tajikistan next week.
Tajik MFA information department reports that a group of Israeli parliamentarians will visit Tajikistan from June 2-6.
A source at Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament says the main purpose of the visit is for Israeli parliamentarians to get acquainted with activities of both chambers of Tajikistan’s parliament.
While in Dushanbe, Israeli parliamentarians will hold a number of meetings with their Tajik counterparts, the source said.
According to him, no parliamentary ties have been established between Tajikistan and Israel so far.
To-date, Tajikistan has parliamentary friendship groups with more than 30 countries of the world, including Russia, the United States, China, Japan, Vietnam, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Germany, South Korea, Belarus, Azerbaijan, India, Estonia, Kuwait, Cuba, Northern Korea, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Belgium, Ukraine, Latvia, Finland, Mongolia, Lithuanian, Poland, Austria, France, Turkey, and Uzbekistan.
The aim of the parliamentary friendship groups is reportedly to foster even stronger relations between Tajikistan and the mentioned countries.
The Knesset is the unicameral national legislature of Israel. As the legislative branch of the Israeli government, the Knesset passes all laws, elects the President and Prime Minister (although the latter is ceremonially appointed by the President), approves the cabinet, and supervises the work of the government. In addition, the Knesset elects the State Comptroller. It also has the power to waive the immunity of its members, remove the President and the State Comptroller from office, dissolve the government in a constructive vote of no confidence, and to dissolve itself and call new elections. The Prime Minister may dissolve the Knesset. However, until an election is completed, the Knesset maintains authority in its current composition.
