KULOB, March 1, Asia-Plus  — A joint British-Swiss project for providing assistance to the population and essential facilities was launched in Khatlon’s Kulob district on February 29.  

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Ms. Nadia Benani, Oxfam program coordinator, said that $234,000 had been provided for implementation of this project that is run in cooperation with the Swiss Agency fro Development and Cooperation (SDC).  

According to her the project, which is supposed to be finished in June this year, is aimed at removing affects of accidents on the drinking water pipelines and cleaning two main water tanks.  Besides, additional filters will be installed on water-purifying facilities through which the city’s waste waters flow into the Yakhsou River.

Besides, generators, water pumps and heaters will be installed in 14 medical facilities and two boarding schools in the Kulob district.  These organizations will also receive warm blankets.
