DUSHANBE, February 19, Asia-Plus  — The Norak hydroelectric power station (HPS) yesterday generated 19.2 kWh of electricity, Rashid Gulov, the deputy engineer-in-chief at Barqi Tojik, told Asia-Plus today.

According to him, as of February 19, water levels at the reservoir powering the Norak HPS have been at the level of 860 meters above sea level.  “The situation still remains critical,” said Gulov, “However, warmer temperatures have caused increase in water inflow to the reservoir; yesterday, the water inflow to the Norak reservoir was at the rate of some 160 cubic meters second,” the Barqi Tojik official said.

“We hope warmer temperatures will allow use resolving the present critical situation in three or four days,” Gulov said, noting, the company is currently considering the possibility of increasing electricity supplies to Dushanbe.

He further added that Tajikistan yesterday received more than 12 million kWh of electricity from neighboring countries.  “On Monday, Turkmenistan supplied 9.6 kWh of electricity, electricity deliveries from Uzbekistan amounted to 2.7 million kWh and Kyrgyzstan yesterday delivered 200,000 kWh of electrical power to Tajikistan,” the deputy engineer-in-chief said.

We will recall that restrictions on electricity supplies introduced in Dushanbe on February resulted in the supply of daily electrical power to residential consumers and enterprises being reduced to 10 hours – five hours of electricity in the morning (from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.) and five in the evening (from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.).
