DUSHANBE, July 15, 2016, Asia-Plus – Tajik female runner has got a quota place for participation in the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games.
According to Tajikistan’s National Olympic Committee (NOC), the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has allocated a quota place to Tajik female runner Cristina Prozhenko. She will compete in a 200-meter dash.
Meanwhile, Tajikistan’s NOC head Bahrullo Rajabaliyev says the list of track and field athletes who have qualified to participate in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games was posted on the website of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on July 13 and there is no name of Tajik athlete Davron Ataboyev on this list.
We will recall that Tajikistan’s NOC said on June 24 that the 23-year-old track and field athlete Davron Ataboyev has earned 2016 Rio Olympics quota spot running the 200-meter dash at the international tournament in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) in 20.5 seconds.
“IOC representatives say the decision on Davron Ataboyev will be announced until July 19,” Rajabaliyev said.
Thus, to-date, four Tajik athletes have already earned quota spots through their respective sports” Olympic qualification processes: hummer thrower Dilshod Nazarov; boxer Anvar Yunusov; and two judokas Komronshoh Ustopiriyon and Muhammadmurod Abdurahmonov.
Anvar Yunusov had claimed his Olympic place with a quarterfinal victory at the 2016 AIBA World Qualifying Tournament in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Komronshoh Ustopiriyon was ranked among the top 22 eligible judokas for men in the IJF World Ranking List of May 30, 2016, while Muhammadmurod Abdurahmonov at men”s half-heavyweight (+100 kg) earned a continental quota spot from the Asian region, as the highest-ranked Tajik judoka outside of direct qualifying position.
Besides, Tajikistan has received a Universality invitation from the International Swimming Federation (FINA) to send two swimmers (one male and one female) to the Rio 2016 Olympics. Olim Qurbonov will compete in men’s 50 m freestyle and Anastasia Tyurina will compete in women’s 50 m freestyle.
