DUSHANBE, February 5, Asia-Plus  — Four servicemen of Tajik OMON (Special Purpose Police Squad) who were injured in a February 2 shootout in Gharm are now in stable health condition, Asia-Plus has learned Abdullo Pirov, the head physician of Republican Hospital # 3.   

According to him, all four servicemen with bullet wounds were taken to the hospital Saturday evening.  “Three servicemen – Saidali Odinayev, Qalandar Muhsiddinov, and Safarbek Ghoibov – are currently undergoing medical treatment in Republican Hospital # 3, while the fourth one, who had lost much blood, was transferred to Dushanbe City Hospital # 5,” the head physician said, noting that they have all necessary medicines to treat the servicemen.   

As it had been reported earlier, The OMON commander, Colonel Oleg Zakharchenko was killed and four OMON servicemen were seriously injured in the settlement of Gharm, administrative center of the Rasht district, some 220 kilometers east of Dushanbe, on Saturday under uncertain circumstances.

A special group comprising officers from the MoI and the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) has been set up to investigate the incident.
