DUSHANBE, January 9, Asia-Plus – Cooperation between Tajikistan and the European Commission (EC) in the fields of education, commerce, and energy was major topic of a meeting of Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi with Ambassador Adriaan van der Meer, Head of the EC Delegation to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, that was held in Dushanbe on January 8, according to the Tajik MFA.
Davlat Nazri, head of the MFA information department, said that the two had also exchanged views on the current situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
They also discussed a progress of implementation of the BOMCA (Border Management in Central Asia) Program.
Mr. Adriaan arrived in Dushanbe to introduce Ms. Charlotte Adrian, Charge D’ Affaires, EC delegation in Tajikistan, to Tajik authorities, Nazri said.
BOMCA is providing comprehensive assistance to all five Central Asian Republics. The accumulated budgets of its different phases amount to approximately 25.7 MEUR over the period 2002-2010. The Commission has allocated additional 12-14 MEUR under the Indicative Program 2007-2010. The program is complemented by several other assistance programs, the most significant of which is CADAP (Central Asian Drug Action Program) with a budget of 16 MEUR for the period 2001-2010.
