DUSHANBE, December 4, Asia-Plus  — On December 3, President Emomali Rahmon met with Mr. Koichiro Matsuura, Director General of UNESCO, in Beppu on sidelines of the First Asia-Pacific Water Summit.   

Abdufattoh Sharifzoda, a spokesman for the Tajik president, said that in the course of the talks President Rahmon had highly appraised a level of cooperation between Tajikistan and UNESCO and stressed that a number of UNSECO-sponsored important projects have been implemented in Tajikistan.

The two expressed satisfaction with the results of cooperation in putting Tajik cultural relic Ajina Teppa on the World Museum Register as well as the 2,700 anniversary of the establishment of the city of Kulob and the 1,500 anniversary of Abu Abdullo Rudaki on the List of Important Dates.   

The two expressed confidence that issue on international recognition of historical and cultural relics such as Sarazm, Takhti Sangin, Bunjakat and Hoji Mashhad would be discussed in the near future, the spokesman said.   

Rahmon invited Mr. Matsuura to attend celebrations dedicated to the 1,500 anniversary of Abu Abdullo Rudaki that will be held in Tajikistan next year.
