An announcement of the expulsion of the head of the Social-Democratic Party (SDP)’s organization for the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), Alim Sherzmonov, has appeared in social networks after his statement at the OSCE Human Dimension Implementation Meeting (HDIM) in Warsaw.

The announcement of the expulsion of Alim Sherzmonov has appeared on a fake page of SDP leader Rahmatillo Zoyirov on Facebook.

The announcement published on behalf of Rahmatillo Zoyirov, in particular, noted that SDP plenum has made a decision to expel Alim Sherzamonov from the party following “his repeated and baseless verbal attacks on the party and his baseless statements in media.”

SDP deputy leader Shokirjon Hakimov has denied this announcement as absolutely “unfounded.”  “Firstly, we have not held any plenum.  A plenum is convened only by decision of the party Political Council.  Secondly, the issue of Alim Sherzamonov has not been discussed,” Hakimov told Asia-Plus in an interview.

Meanwhile, Alim Sherzamonov yesterday delivered a statement at one of panel discussions the OSCE Human Dimension Implementation Meeting in Warsaw.  He, in particular, noted that there is no real stability in Tajikistan, for which the authorities use pressure and bans.

Earlier, Sherzamonov had proposed to suspend activities of the SDP in the country taking into account unhealthy political situation in the country.

According to him, many members of the party and their supporters are under pressure, and therefore, “they do not want their names to appear on the party list, not to mention full-fledge activity.”  “Today, there is practically no trace of civil society and independent media in Tajikistan,” Sherzamonov noted.

Founded in 2002, the Social-Democratic Party was registered on December 20, 2002.  It was originally registered as the Party of Justice and Development on February 5, 1999.  Tajikistan’s Ministry of Justice requested the same year that the Supreme Court ban the party’s activities and its registration was canceled.  The party re-emerged and was registered under the name of the Social-Democratic Party in late 2002.  Chairman of the Social-Democratic Party is Rahmatillo Zoyirov and the party reportedly has 7,500 members.

The party backbone members reportedly include practicing lawyers from the legal firm Sipar and the party leader Rahmatillo Zoyirov is the head of Legal Consortium of Tajikistan.
