An international entrepreneurship forum, dubbed Danghara-2017, will take place in Danghara, the hometown of President Emomali Rahmon, on October 13, a day ahead of the National Day of Entrepreneurs, which is marked in Tajikistan on October 14.
Organized by the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MoEDT) and partners for development, the event is expected to bring together representatives of the government, researchers, representatives of diplomatic missions and international organizations active in Tajikistan, as well as more than 250 entrepreneurs from China, South Korea, Afghanistan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and some other countries.
The main objective of the Forum is in informing business structures, experts and foreign investors about opportunities of investment in the economy of the Khatlon province.
The Forum participants will also be acquainted with preferences offered by Danghara Free Economic Zone (Danghara FEZ).
It is also planned to promote establishment of cooperation between invited companies and local entrepreneurs.
Danghara FEZ is located in the Danghara district of the Khatlon province with a total area of 522 hectares.
In the early 2000s, foreign direct investment has remained low because of political and economic instability, the poor domestic financial system, and Tajikistan’s geographic isolation. To attract foreign investment and technology, Tajikistan has offered to establish free economic zones in which firms receive advantages on taxes, fees, and customs. In 2004, the parliament passed a law on free economic zones. The zones reportedly offer customs and tax incentives to qualified investors that invest at least 500,000 USD and import at least 90% of the technology and equipment.
