Situation along the Tajik-Afghan border remains complex, Sherkhon Salimzoda, Director of the Drug Control Agency (DCA) under President of Tajikistan, noted on June 8 while addressing a meeting of the coordinating council of the heads of the competent authorities combating illicit drug trafficking of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member nations in Minsk, Belarus.

In his statement delivered at the meeting, Tajik drug control kingpin reported on the current situation along the Tajik-Afghan border and efforts taken by Tajik authorities to combat drug trafficking.

Meanwhile, Belarusian news agency BelTA reports that the meeting participants discussed the topical issues of the fight against drug crime.

The event reportedly brought together delegations from the CSTO member states: Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Belarus, and also the CSTO Secretariat.

The meeting participants also discussed the problems in the fight against illicit drug trafficking, the promising areas for further joint activities and to get familiar with Belarus' experience in combating illicit drug trafficking through the internet.  The heads of delegations reviewed the outcome of the international anti-drug operation “Channel-Western Barrier” and signed the outcome documents.
