Tajikistan attends at UNWTO General Assembly session in Colombia

DUSHANBE, November 22, Asia-Plus  — Tajik delegation led by Maliksho Nematov, chairman of the Committee for Youth’s Affairs, Sports and Tourism, is attending a session of the UNWTO (World Tourism Organization) General Assembly that is opening in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia today.

Bakhtiyor Hamdamov, the deputy head of the Committee for Youth’s Affairs, Sports and tourism, told Asia-Plus that the issue of admission of Tajikistan to UNTWO is supposed to be resolved at that session.  “The committee has prepared report, booklets, brochures and magazines about tourism and relevant industries in Tajikistan,” Hamdamov said.    

 According to him, the committee is currently working on improvement of a system of registration of tourists visiting Tajikistan, which is of significant importance for carrying out detailed monitoring and advertising the country and tourist products.    

  259,484 foreign tourists, mostly citizens of the CIS states (119,931 people), have visited Tajikistan in January-September 2007.   As far as tourists from the far abroad countries are concerned, the number of tourists from these countries visiting Tajikistan has increased nearly 2.3 times to 67,553.  

Over the same nine-month period, 15,600 Tajiks have visited foreign countries over the report period.
