DUSHANBE, November 21, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan has received the bodies of 322 of its citizens from the Russian Federation since the beginning of this year, Asia-plus has learned at the Tajik transportation police directorate.
The listed causes of death were murder (61), disease (129), accident (55), traffic accident (74), and unknown (3).
“317 coffins bearing Tajik citizens returned to Tajikistan from Russia in the same period last year,” said the source, “The majority of them are labor migrants.”.
However, the Interior Ministry Migration Service chief, Major-General Ramazon Rahimov says it would be erroneous to consider that the number of Tajik migrant workers who die in Russia is rising.
“It should be taken into consideration that flow of labor migrants from Tajikistan to Russia is increasing year,” the migration service chief said, noting that some 280,000 Tajik labor migrants have to date been legalized in Russia.
According to official statistics, more than 500,000 Tajik labor migrants now work in the Russian Federation.
