A resident of the Panj district in the Khatlon province will stand trial for attacking a judge with an ax
A 38-year-old resident of the Panj district, Dilovar Olimov, being in a state of drunkenness attacked the chairman of the Panj district court, Davlatmand Rahimzoda, with an ax on August 31 following the court ruling obliging him to pay alimony at 260.00 somoni a month to his two children, Fayz Sultoniyon, the head of the investigative department at the Khatlon regional prosecutor’s office, told Asia-Plus in an interview.
Rahimzoda reportedly sustained various injuries and was hospitalized.
According to Sultoniyon, criminal proceedings have been instituted against Olimov under the provisions of Article 104 (2) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – murder attempt. “The prosecutor’s office has completed an investigation in to the case and it will move to a court in the near future,” the prosecutor added.
It is not the first case of an attack on a judge in Tajikistan. Five years ago, an 80-year-old resident of the city of Isfara (Sughd province), Zaynulobiddin Jourayev, splashed an acid in face of the chairman of the Isfara city court, Abduhomid Davronov. The judge lost his left eye and Jourayev got a jail term of eight years.
