An official website of the Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption says a senior investigator with the Interior Ministry’s office for the Sughd province faces charges for involvement in drug trafficking.

The senior investigator for the Interior Ministry’s office for the Sughd province Ruslan Sharipov and a resident of the Mastchoh district (Sughd province) Muhammad Sharifov have reportedly been detained on suspicion of being involved in a large-scale drug trafficking.

81.916 kilograms of narcotic drugs have been confiscated from them, according to the website.  A totaled reportedly included 34.759 kilograms of raw opium and 47.157 kilograms of hashish.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against Ruslan Sharipov and Muhammad Sharifov under the provisions of Article 200 (4) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – drug trafficking; an investigation is under way.

If convicted they could face jail terms of between twelve and twenty years.
