DUSHANBE, October 12, Asia-Plus — The 32nd session of the CIS Electric Power Council is being held in Dushanbe today.
Heads of state-controlled power companies from 11 CIS states as well as representatives from Turkmenistan and Iran are expected to take part at the session, Nozir Yodgori, a spokesman for Barqi Tojik (Tajik electric systems) power holding, said.
According to him, the session that will be presided by Anatoly Chubais, the head of Russia’s largest power holding Russian Unified Energy System (RAO YeES), is supposed to consider issues related to the CIS power system.
The CIS power system is based on the potential created in the former Soviet Union, where the world’s largest interconnected power system – the Unified Power System (UPS) of the former USSR was created by the end of the 1980s. The installed capacity of power plants of CIS in time of its establishing amounted to 315 GW, electricity production –1632 GWh.
