Tajik leader discusses strengthening strategic partnership with Chinese high-ranking state officials

Rahmon met with Premier of the State Council of China Li Qiang and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Zhao Leji.

Emomali Rahmon on May 11 met in Beijing with Chinese State Council Premier Li Qiang and emphasized that China remains a friendly country, a good neighbor, and a reliable strategic partner for Tajikistan.

According to the Tajik president’s official website, it was noted during the meeting that a two-way trade between Tajikistan and China last year grew by almost 46% compared to 2024.

It was also reported that the volume of Chinese investments in the economy of Tajikistan from 2007 to 2024 reached nearly 6 billion dollars, the majority of which are direct investments.

The meeting reportedly discussed prospects for cooperation in the fields of energy, transport, road construction, industry, agriculture, digitalization, artificial intelligence implementation, and the development of a green economy.

The parties also considered issues of increasing the export of Tajik agricultural products to China and the creation of a joint innovative agropark in Tajikistan.

At the meeting with Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress Zhao Leji, Emomali Rahmon reprotedly discussed the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation between the countries.

Tajik leader emphasized that parliamentary diplomacy is an important tool for strengthening political, trade-economic, and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries.

“We advocate for the fruitful continuation of inter-parliamentary relations in line with the common interests of the two countries,” noted Emomali Rahmon.

The significance of inter-parliamentary interaction as the foundation of the strategic partnership between Tajikistan and China was separately emphasized.

Emomali Rahmon welcomed the launch of the Tajikistan–China Inter-Parliamentary Commission, whose first meeting was held in Beijing in November 2025.

The parties also discussed exchanging experiences in lawmaking, the development of digital technologies and artificial intelligence, support for innovation, green energy, and the expansion of cultural and humanitarian ties.

Chinese media reports say the President of Tajikistan is paying state visit to China from May 11 to May 14 at the invitation of China’s President Xi Jinping.
