Up to +45°C and rare rains: what will June be like in Tajikistan?

In most regions of Tajikistan, June will be hot and dry; however, thunderstorms with rain are possible on certain days.

June in Tajikistan, as usual, is expected to be hot: temperatures across the country, except in mountainous regions, will rise to nearly +40°C. However, brief rains are expected on certain days of the month, the country’s Hydrometeorology Center (Hydromet) reports.

Khatlon province and plain areas subordinate to the center

The average monthly air temperature is expected to be within a range, locally 1°C-2ºC above the climatic norm, and will be: in the plain areas 25°C+32°C C, in the foothill areas 21°C+25ºC.

Throughout the month, fluctuations in air temperature are expected, with nighttime temperatures in the plain areas ranging from 15°C+20ºC to 22°C+27ºC, and daytime temperatures from 32°C+37ºC to 37°C+42ºC. In the extreme south, on certain days, temperatures may reach 43°C+45ºC; in the foothill areas, nighttime temperatures will range from 10°C+15ºC to 17°C+22ºC, while daytime temperatures will range from 23°C+28ºC to 31°C+36ºC.

The monthly amount of precipitation is expected to be lower, with some areas exceeding the norm, and brief thunderstorms of varying intensity are expected on certain days of the month. In some places, an increase in the western wind is forecasted to reach 17-22 m/s, accompanied by dust storms and fog.

Sughd province

In some areas, air temperatures are expected to be 1°C-2ºC above the climatic norm, with valley temperatures of  25°C+29ºC, and in mountainous areas 12°C+18ºC.

In the plain areas – nighttime temperatures will range from 15°C+20ºC to 21°C+26ºC, daytime temperatures from 27°C+32ºC to 35°C+40ºC, in mountainous areas nighttime temperatures will range from 5°C+10ºC to 12°C+17ºC, and daytime temperatures from 17°C+22ºC to 26°C+31ºC.

The monthly precipitation amount is expected to be lower, with some areas exceeding the norm. Brief thunderstorms of varying intensity are expected on certain days of the month, and in some areas, an increase in the western wind is expected to reach 17-22 m/s.

Mountainous areas subordinate to the center and western part of GBAO

The average monthly air temperature is expected to be within a range, locally 1°C-2ºC above the climatic norm, and will be 16°C+23ºC (the norm in mountainous areas subordiante to the center and in the western part of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) is 16°C+21ºC).

Throughout the month, fluctuations in air temperature are expected, with nighttime temperatures from 7°C+12°C to 14°C+19ºC, and daytime temperatures from 19°C+24°C to 26°C+31ºC. On certain days in GBAO’s Darvoz district, temperatures may reach up to 34°C+36ºC.

The monthly amount of precipitation is expected to be lower, with some areas exceeding the norm (the norm in mountainous areas subordiante to the center is 35-55 mm, in the western part of GBAO it is 8-20 mm).

On certain days of the month, brief thunderstorms of varying intensity are expected, and in some areas, an increase in the western wind is possible, reaching 17-22 m/s.

Eastern part of GBAO

The average monthly air temperature is also expected to be within a range, locally 1°C-2ºC above the climatic norm, and will be 5°C+11ºC.

Throughout the month, fluctuations in air temperature are expected, with nighttime temperatures ranging from -3°C+2ºC to 3°C+8ºC, and daytime temperatures from 10°C+15ºC to 17°C+22ºC.  

The monthly amount of precipitation is expected to be within a range, with some areas exceeding the norm, and in some areas, an increase in the western wind is possible, reaching 15-20 m/s.
