The Agency for Hydrometeorology of Tajikistan (Hydromet) warned of heavy rains and the risk of mudflows in the country over the next five days.

According to the agency, from May 21 to 25, due to precipitation in certain districts subordinate to the center (RRPs), Khatlon and Sughd provinces, as well as in the west part of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), mudflows and floods are possible.

During these days, an increase in water levels is expected in the Isfara, Zarafshon, Obihingob, Vakhsh, Panj, Yakhsou, Qizilsou rivers and those flowing from the southern slopes of the Hisor Range.

Hydromet urges residents to take precautions in adverse weather conditions.

The Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan also draws the attention of the country’s residents to the need to follow safety rules and avoid being near rivers and dangerous areas during worsening weather.
