On May 19, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Tajikistan, Keiko Furuta, participated in the ceremony marking the completion of the project to construct a new building for School No. 12 in the village of Hamro Olimov, Nosiri Khusrav district.
The event was also attended by the chairman of the district, Mahmadayub Sharifzoda, staff and students of the school, and local residents.
The project was allocated $113.5 thousand under the Japanese government’s program for Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).
Within the framework of the project, a new modern building was constructed on the site of the old dilapidated school building from 1956. This resolved the issue of overcrowded classrooms and created safe and comfortable conditions for learning.

In her speech, Ms. Furuta, congratulating everyone present on the successful completion of the socially significant project, noted that Japan, as a reliable friend of Tajikistan, has been actively assisting the Tajik people in a wide range of areas for over 30 years, primarily in education. She wished the students a fulfilling school life and the teachers further success in their noble activities.
Mahmadayub Sharifzoda, on behalf of himself, the school staff, and the village residents, expressed gratitude to the government and people of Japan for their assistance.

The Japanese government intends to continue providing support for the socio-economic development of Tajikistan. Assistance under GGP is primarily provided to local authorities, educational and medical institutions, and international NGOs in developing countries. Since 1996, under GGP, the Japanese government has supported 474 humanitarian projects totaling $39.9 million aimed at the development of Tajikistan, including 156 projects in the field of education.
