DUHANBE, October 11, Asia-Plus —
China
supports enhancement of work of the Tajik Drug Control Agency (DCA) through providing it with the state-of-the-art drug-detecting equipment for checking vehicles, the first Deputy DCA Director, Vaysiddin Azamatov remarked at a news conference in
Dushanbe
today.
A total cost of the equipment that is expected to be delivered to
Tajikistan
next week is more than 4 million US dollars.
“The equipment will be handed over to our country in accordance with government-to-government agreement between
Tajikistan
and
China
,” the drug control official said.
Speaking to journalists, the Deputy DCA Director, Bunafsha Odinayeva said that the X-ray equipment is installed on a trailer Volvo.
“
Tajikistan
is still the first in
Central Asia
to acquire such equipment,” Odinayeva said.
During the news conference it was noted that in January-September 2007, the counternarcotics agency has intercepted more than
915 kilograms
of drugs, including
278 kilograms
of heroin and
329 kilograms
of raw opium.
