Uzbekistan intends to open new Uzbek car dealerships in Tajikistan.  1.3 million USD worth of Uzbek cars have reportedly been sold in Tajikistan since September last year.   

Press center of the Joint-Stock Company (JSC) UzAutoSanoat says Uzbekistan intends to open new Uzbek car dealerships in the regions of Tajikistan.

“GM Uzbekistan has been carried out a large work to promote expansion of partnership between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan,” says the UzAutoSanoat press center.  

GM Uzbekistan is a joint venture between the Uzbek government, OJSC UzAutoSanoat (75%) and the American General Motors Company (25%) for the manufacturing of automobiles, and is located in Asaka, Uzbekistan.

Uzbek auto goods were presented in Tajikistan for the first time at a major trade fair of Uzbekistan’s exports that took place in the Tajik capital in April last year.  

The centralized dealership for selling Uzbek cars Damas, Labo, Spark, Cobalt, Gentra and Nexia opened in Dushanbe in September last year. 

“To-date, Uzbekistan has delivered more than 3.1 million USD worth of cars,” the press center says.

Several other Uzbek car dealerships are reportedly expected to open in other parts of Tajikistan in the near future.

Before 1992, Uzbekistan had absolutely no automotive industry, being part of the Soviet Union.  In post-Soviet times, UzDaewooAuto, SamKochAvto, GM Uzbekistan new auto producing plants were built with South Korean and American help.  Now that production is more than 200 thousand per year, Uzbekistan exports automobiles to Russia and other CIS countries.
