Dushanbe mayor orders to take measures against owners of idle enterprises

Date:

Dushanbe Mayor Rustam Emomali has ordered to take measures against owners of idle enterprises. If the Dushanbe-based idle enterprises do not present feasible plans on resumption of operations, adequate measures will be taken against their owners, according to the Dushanbe mayor’s office.

This issue was reportedly discussed at the recent session of the Dushanbe legislature (Majlis).  Dushanbe mayor also ordered to organize import of the state-of-the-art equipment for local industrial enterprises in the near future, and thereby, increase the volume of competitive production, launch new industrial enterprises and create new jobs.

The Dushanbe-based industrial enterprises now produce more than 300 items of industrial products.  Dushanbe reportedly accounts for some 30 percent of the overall volume of the country’s consumer goods, including food products.

The main export goods manufactured by the Dushanbe-based enterprises are cotton yarn, cotton fabrics, hosieries, cables, tobacco products, equipment for trade, etc.

Over the first nine months of last year, Dushanbe had reportedly accounted for 17.7 percent of the overall volume of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).

In January-September last year, Dushanbe’s economic growth rate had been 5.8 percent and its GDP for the report period had been estimated at 7.51 billion somoni.
