Tajik clerics get acquainted with the country’s history

Date:

Tajik authorities consider that clerics of Tajikistan should know history and culture of the country.

The Committee on Religious Affairs (CRA) under the Government of Tajikistan recommends that clerics visit museum, theaters and various historic sites.

The CRA’s plan of actions for this year, in particular, includes collective visits of clerics to the mentioned places.

Meanwhile, the CRA spokesman Afshin Muqim noted that it was strictly voluntarily to visit theaters, museums and historic sites.

“Alongside other nationals of the country clerics should know history and culture of the country,” Muqim stressed.

The CRA recommendations reportedly apply not only to Muslim clerics but to priests of al confessions active in the country.

“This week, 116 clerics from Hisor Valley visited the National museum in Dushanbe,” said the CRA spokesman.  “Before that, such excursions to the National Museum of Tajikistan had been organized for imam-khatibs of Dushanbe, Vahdat Township and Varzob District.”

“Besides, imam-khatibs of cathedral mosques from various regions of the country last month visited the Abulqosim Lohouti Theater in Dushanbe to watch “Obu Otash” (Water and Flame) performance based on play by Tajik writer and playwright Mansour Surush,” Muqim added.

To-date, 4,000 imam-khatibs have been registered with the Committee on Religious Affairs.
