Cost of housing in Tajik capital soaring

Housing prices are soaring in Dushanbe.  Senior representatives of the Committee for Architecture and Construction under the Government of Tajikistan say the soaring cost of housing in Dushanbe is caused by rising prices for building materials imported from other countries.

Housing prices in Dushanbe have started rising in recent years.  Currently, an average price for one square meter of dwelling space in an apartment building is 626 U.S. dollars.

In a report released at a press conference in Dushanbe, the head of the Committee for Architecture and Construction, Jamshed Ahmadzoda, noted on July 19 that according to findings by the State Unitary Enterprise (SUE) Center for Pricing in Construction Center, current average price for one square meter of dwelling space in an apartment building in Dushanbe is US$626.  

Meanwhile, the price for one square meter of dwelling space in apartment buildings constructed by Manzili Dastras (Affordable Housing) Company is US$350, Ahmadzoda said.  

He noted that at the beginning of the year, the price for one square meter of dwelling space in apartment buildings in Dushanbe fluctuated from US$350 to US$600.  

Ahmadzoda told reporters that the soaring cost of housing in Dushanbe has been caused by rising prices for building materials imported from other countries.

Before decline in housing prices, the price for one square meter o dwelling space in downtown Dushanbe fluctuated from US$800 to US$1,300.
