The number of small enterprises decreasing in Tajikistan

Date:

In a report released at a news conference in Dushanbe, Farrukh Hamralizoda, the head of the State Committee on Investments and State-owned Property Management (GosKomInvest), revealed on August 1 that more than 12,000 individual entrepreneurs in Tajikistan have stopped their activities over the first six months of this year.

“Although this number is 14.5 percent fewer compared to the same period last year, this trend evokes concern,” Hamralizoda noted.

According to him, 588 legal entities have stopped their activities in January-June this year, which is 25.2 percent less than in the same period last year.

“At the same time, the number of business entities increased by 5.2 percent in a year to June 30, 2018,” said Hamralizoda.  “549 new legal entities and 20,340 new individual entrepreneurs have been registered over the report period.”

Currently, there are 310,163 business entities working in Tajikistan, with 89.9 percent of the being individual entrepreneurs with annual turnover of up to 100,000 somoni.  Legal entities constitute 10.1 percent of business entities in Tajikistan.

“As a result of reforms, the share of private sector in the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) has risen to 70 percent,” Hamralizoda noted.
