DUSHANBE, April 15, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Net profit of Amonatbonk (Tajikistan’s savings bank) has amounted to 2 million somoni (equivalent to some US$520,000) in January-March this year, which is 3.3 percent more than in the same period of last year, the Amonatbonk head Mahmadamin Mahmadaminov announced at a news conference in Dushanbe on April 14.

As of March 31, 2009, the bank’s total capital has amounted to 109 million somoni, which is three times more than of the same date of 2008. 

Amonatbonk’s assets rose 39.5 percent in the year to April 1, 2009, reaching 475.7 million somoni.

Over the report period, communal services” subsidies totaling 2.1 million somoni have been given to the vulnerable families and 113.9 million somoni have been paid to more than 525,000 pensioners through Amonatbonk.

Over the same three-month period, the bank has provided 30.1 million somoni in loans to 2,979 clients and remaining loan debts amounted, as of April 1, 2009, to 216.9 million somoni.

On the global financial crisis and its impact, Mr. Mahmadaminov said the crisis had affected foreign currency receipts.  Over the report period, 36.7 million US dollars have been remitted to the bank, which is 25.8 percent fewer than in the same period of last year.

To fulfill its obligations properly Amonatbonk has set up the Bank Solvency Sustainability Fund as an anticrisis measure, Mahmadaminov said.
