Only one fact of resistance has been registered.

In Gorno-Badakhshan, the process of voluntary surrender of firearms, which are illegally held by the population of the region, continues. It began after the visit of the President of Tajikistan to GBAO.

On September 15, Emomali Rahmon, at a meeting with the region’s activists, sharply criticized the work of the region’s law enforcement agencies and gave them a month to restore order.

After criticizing the country's president regarding the situation in Khorog, the authorities of GBAO seized more than 100 firearms from the population – it was surrendered voluntarily after conducting explanatory conversations of the police with the population, said a source in the regional police.

Not so smooth

However, according to him, there was still one case of insubordination: the other day police officers detained a resident of Khorog, a 25-year-old Sohibnazar Imomnazarov. He is suspected of resisting the police and storing a military grenade, the regional administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.

His Mercedes-Benz car was stopped to check documents by the traffic police officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan in the GBAO in the center of Khorog.

" During the inspection of documents, it turned out that the windows of the car were tinted without issuing the relevant documents. Inside the car, an F-1 combat grenade and two knives were found. When police tried to detain Imomnazarov, he resisted, tried to escape, but was nevertheless detained ", – reported in Ministry of Internal Affairs.

He noted that in the city of Khorog, with the assistance of the local population, a campaign is underway at full speed to clean the windows of illegally tinted cars, as well as officially registering cars that had no state number.

Earlier, the press service of the head of GBAO said that in the matter of surrendering weapons, cleaning windows and registering cars, no one forces anyone, after the President’s statement, the population voluntarily joined these events.

Before the president’s arrival in GBAO, the State Committee for National Security and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan conducted a special operation to disarm the residents of GBAO: they voluntarily surrendered 39 firearms, including 11 Makarov pistols, 8 AKM assault rifles, 1 machine gun and 1 SKS-7 carbine, and 19 other firearms.

Voluntary handing over of weapons took place from August 16 to September 8 in the territory of GBAO as part of events organized by the Interregional Republican Headquarters in order to ensure security and public order.
