Speaker of Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament (Majlisi Oli), Shukurjon Zuhurov, has sharply criticized relevant government bodies for the poor efforts to attract foreign investments for development of the country’s economy.

His criticism, directed at heads of relevant government bodies, came during an address to a regular sitting of the Majlisi Namoyandagon that took place on November 23.

He, in particular, noted that although right laws and decrees had been adopted on attraction of foreign investments, no conditions had been created for investors.

“Heads of relevant bodies of the government have not sought investors for development of the country’s economy; on contrary, investors have looked in vain for them.  When investors come in Dushanbe our ministers sometimes even do not receive and do not reply to their letters and proposals,” Zuhurov said.

He further noted that tax incentives proposed annually by the government are not always effective.

Parliament speaker harshly criticized the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies.  According to him, more than 4,000 jobs have been cut down in the industrial sector this year.

“More than 2 billion somoni worth of goods manufactured by Tajik industrial enterprises have been stored in warehouses because they have not found buyers,” Zuhurov added.
