DUSHANBE, September 18, Asia-Plus – A number of bilateral cooperation documents, including an agreement on protection of rights of migrants, have been singed during Tajik President Rahmon’s official visit to Kyrgyzstan.
Kyrgyzstan’s AKIPress reports Emomali Rahmon and his Kyrgyz counterpart, President Kurmanbek Bakiyev, today discussed issues related expansion of border trade through opening of wholesale and commercial-procurement markets.
Kyrgyz president remarked this at a news conference after his meeting with President Rahmon. “We also discussed ways to expand economic cooperation between our countries,” Bakiyev said, noting that there is considerable room for expansion of economic ties.
Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan also have many unused reserves in the field of hydropower, according to him.
President Rahmon expressed confidence that his visit to Kyrgyzstan will give a new impulse for further expansion of bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
The presidents also discussed the problem of disputed territories and during the meeting, it was noted that there is a progress in negotiations on delineation of border between the two countries.
Speaking to journalists, Kyrgyz president said that half of Kyrgyzstan’s common border with Tajikistan had been defined.
The leaders of the two countries signed a joint statement.
Besides, ministries of the two countries signed a number of agreements:
– a cooperation agreement between the Kyrgyz ministry of culture and information and the Tajik ministry of culture;
– government-to-government agreement on regulating migration process and protecting rights of migrants;
– a cooperation agreement between the Kyrgyz ministry of agriculture, water resources and processing industry and the Tajik ministry of agriculture and environmental protection;
– a cooperation agreement between the Kyrgyz ministry of culture and information and the Tajik state archive directorate.
