64 people, including 28 teens under the age of 16, have drowned in rivers and lakes of Tajikistan over the first 40 days of summer, according to the Emergncies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan.

To prevent water accidents the Emergencies Committee employees are continuing to carry out explanatory works among the populations.

“The Emergencies Committee employees jointly with police officers have made raids on beaches and ponds in Dushanbe and Khatlon province, installed prohibition signs and information stands as well as distributed booklets and brochures,” Ms. Umeda Yusufi, a spokeswoman for the Emergencies Committee, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

“Unfortunately, citizens are careless about their own safety,” Ms. Yusufi noted.
