DUSHANBE, Khujand, June 1, Asia-Plus – the spring conscription campaign has been completed, reaching 100 percent of the target, according to the ministry of defense (MoD).

The source at a MoD noted that many districts had completed the conscription campaign ahead of schedule.

Thus, Sharif Azizov, the deputy chief of the Sughd regional military registration and enlistment office, told Asia-Plus that the military recruitment offices of Taboshar, Shahriston and Zafarobod in northern Tajikistan reported completion of the conscription campaign in early May already.  “Many conscripts came to reception units without any compulsion and summons,” Azizov said.

According to the MoD, some 6,000 conscripts were drafted into the army during the spring conscription campaign.

The spring conscription campaign was carried out from April through May 2007.  The draft affected able-bodied male citizens in the age bracket of 18 years old to 27 years old who are not members of the armed forces reserve.
