KHUJAND, April 8, 2009, Asia-Plus  — An operation carried out by officers from the internal security department within the Ministry of Interior (MoI) in Sughd’s Bobojonghafurov district on April 6 led to the seizure of nearly 5 kilograms of heroin, press service of the Sughd police directorate reported.

“Five packages containing 4.884 kilograms of heroin were found in BMW belonging the 39-year-old resident of the Bobojonghafurov district Sobir Sharipov,” said the source.  “Sharipov and his passenger, the 39-year-old resident of Khatlon’s Panj district Abduvali Kholov, were detained on suspicion of having been involved in drug trafficking.”

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against Sharipov and Kholov under the provisions of Article 200 (trafficking in narcotics, psychotropic substances and precursors) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code and an investigation is under way.
